Media Tip Sheet: Legal Expert on Reclassification of Marijuana

May 3, 2024

WASHINGTON (May 3 2024) – Earlier this week, Attorney General Merrick recommended loosening restriction on marijuana. If enacted, this would not legalize marijuana at the federal level but would likely broaden access to the drug for medicinal use and increase cannabis industries in states where it is legal.

For more context on the matter, please consider Peter Meyers, Professor of Law Emeritus at the George Washington University Law School. Meyers teaches Drugs and the Law, and has litigated this very issue of reclassifying marijuana in the D.C. Circuit. In addition, Meyers is an expert in appellate law. Meyers has published articles on the constitutionality of pretrial drug testing, pursuant of the Second Look Act, and reform of the flaws in the Federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
